SNP blasted over 'shameful' cuts to Scottish flood defences

Flood warning as heavy rain hits Scotland

Scottish Conservative MSP Alex Johnstone blasts the Scottish Government as the Met Office post an amber "be prepared" warnings for Moray, Aberdeenshire, Angus, Perthshire and Stirlingshire.

The Met Office warned of "ongoing disruption" from surface water flooding and some river flooding as well.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) has issued about 30 flood warnings.

The warnings, which mean flooding is expected, are mostly for the Tayside, Angus, and Dundee areas, as well as Aberdeen and Ballater in Aberdeenshire.

Sepa has now added the Scottish Borders to its list of alerts, where flooding is possible, bringing the number of alerts to four.

Mr Johnstone said: "The heavy rain is making New Year a misery for many, so it is shameful that the SNP has cut money to help with vital flood defences.

"Nobody can be complacent, but it seems the Nationalists have failed to keep their eye on the ball here.

"Instead they are content to pour money into land reform policies, which amounts to Soviet style land grabbing rather than fund projects that really count.
