At their annual charity fundraising meet held on Saturday, 6th February, supporters of the Beaufort Hunt raised almost £1,700 for Dorothy House Hospice.
The hunt organises a charity meet each year and donates funds to a nominated charity. This year, the meet was held near Luckington in Wiltshire, where a large crowd – both mounted and on foot – gave generously to the local charity which offers a range of services to support many patients, carers and families around Wiltshire and Somerset.
Phillippa Watson, who attended the meet on behalf of Dorothy House Hospice, said: "It is fantastic to be here, the supporters are incredibly generous and we are grateful to the Beaufort Hunt and the local community for their kind contributions."
Polly Portwin, director of the Campaign for Hunting at the Countryside Alliance praised hunts and their supporters for their generosity and community spirit: "Despite their own fundraising efforts being hampered by the effects of the pandemic, hunts across the country also recognise the difficulties this has created for local and national charities so they have continued to fundraise to support those who benefit from the work of such incredible organisations."
Matt Ramsden, joint-master and huntsman of the Beaufort Hunt voiced his support for the fundraising event: "The Beaufort Hunt plays a huge part in the rural community and we think it is important to support the local charities which play such a crucial role in all our lives."
Although they were unable to hold a charity fundraising meet last year, due to coronavirus restrictions, the Beaufort Hunt Supporters Club also presented cheques to three other local charities in December 2021 after fundraising at other events.
