Tony Holdsworth, huntsman to the Duke of Beaufort's hounds, had his final day hunting in the Beaufort country on their last meet of the season at Worcester Lodge on 19th March.
Tony began his hunting career at the age of 21 with the Eglinton in Ayrshire as kennel man, terrier man and whipper-in, learning the ropes from the bottom up. After two seasons he moved to the Dart Vale before going on to be whipper-in to the East Devon. 3 seasons later he moved to the Tiverton, again as whipper-in before being promoted after one season to the position of huntsman. In 2001 he was invited by Captain Farquhar to become his kennel huntsman at the Beaufort before taking over the horn in 2010. In addition to his skill as a huntsman and horseman, Tony's aptitude for dealing with the attentions of the media both locally and nationally has been a valuable contribution to hunting public relations.
