The Countryside Alliance welcomes the launch of International Virtual Hound Show

The Countryside Alliance has welcomed the launch of an International Virtual Hound Show (IVHS) which is due to take place between 17th July and 14th August.

The new initiative has been developed as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak which meant the cancellation of hound shows and puppy shows across the UK, as well as in other parts of the world. Hounds from registered packs of hounds from the UK, Ireland, France, North America, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia have been invited to participate.

With specific classes for different types of hounds including foxhounds, staghounds, harriers, beagles, basset hounds and minkhounds, there will be 30 "virtual rings". There will be two separate competitions, with hounds being judged by a panel of recognised expert hound judges as well as by a public vote.

"We welcome this innovative idea and look forward to supporting the International Virtual Hound Show", commented Polly Portwin, the Countryside Alliance's Head of Hunting. "These are extraordinary times, but this initiative gives the hunting community an opportunity to unite and showcase their passion for hounds to a worldwide audience."

Participating packs are also invited to submit a "single pledge lot" to the IVHS online silent auction, with proceeds from their lot going to the hunt of their nominated charity.

"The IVHS appeals to a diverse global family of hound enthusiasts," revealed IVHS organiser Richard Walton. "With so many lives and communities negatively affected by COVID-19, the International Virtual Hound Show will provide an escape for the hunting community for five weeks."

"The show offers an opportunity to see the very best hounds from countries across three continents competing in 30 showing rings."
