On Sunday 4th October, Charles Jardine – the Director and Founder of Fishing for Schools – took part in his last ever marathon around Europe's largest man-made lake and the esteemed trout fishery, Rutland water.
After the cancellation of the iconic London Marathon and with four 'London's' behind him, Rutland Water was the perfect venue to end his marathon journey.
There may not have been the hundreds of supporters out cheering along the sidelines, but Charles had a fantastic team on the day. He completed the distance in an incredible 6 hours and 30 minutes, and even made time to wet a line afterwards.
Throughout the day, donations from dedicated supporters flooded in and over £4,000 has now been raised for Fishing for Schools.
Now recovering from his endeavour, Charles said: "Well, this might have been my last full Marathon and draws a close to 19 years of trading and running, but my fire for what Fishing for Schools has become - and will be - burns as strong now, as ever. The initiative, the future for our sport and the young, truly matter. I am sure that I will come up with some more mad schemes in the future to drive us ever onwards...watch this space! I might just have a quiet week though."
Charles added: "I would also like to thank my team Kim, Peter de Kramer and David Moore who were just inspirational. They ensured I had water and went to get energy drinks when I was fading fast. There are not enough words of thanks for the three of them."
There is still time to donate if you wish. Please visit Just Giving to give what you can.
Well done Charles and thank you so much to everyone who has donated to Fishing for Schools. Thanks to your support we will be able to continue to introduce more young people to the joys of fishing.
