Countryside Alliance at Essex Young Farmers Game Evening

The Essex Young Farmers Club was packed for an evening of game tasting and a talk by Countryside Alliance Political Assistant James Somerville-Meikle. The event, on Tuesday 24 November, was part of the Great British Game Week which was jointly founded by the Countryside Alliance as part of our Game-to-Eat campaign. Great British Game Week is a focus for lots of events, dinners and special offers promoting game to butchers, chefs, journalists and of course to members of the public.

The 70 young farmers who attended the event in Chelmsford were treated to a variety of game prepared by local chef Hilary Lester including venison salami, smoked duck breast and partridge and port pate.

James's talk provided an overview to the lobbying work of the Countryside Alliance in Parliament and Europe over the past year and also considered the importance of game for the shooting community and the countryside as a whole.

James commented "It was great to see such an active young farmers club and I'm pleased the event had such a good turnout."

"There are a lot of important issues affecting game at the moment including lead shot, firearms legislation and wildlife law and it was great to see so many young people wanting to hear about them. Game eating and game shooting go hand in hand and if we want to protect shooting we need to continue to promote game through events like this."
