Countryside Alliance raises rural issues with Lib Dem spokespeople

The Countryside Alliance held meetings with the Liberal Democrat spokespeople for the environment, food and rural affairs, Tim Farron MP and Baroness Bakewell, at the party's annual conference in Brighton on 17 September.

The Alliance's policy and political team discussed a range of rural issues with the Lib Dem politicians, including rural broadband, moorland management, and the newly published Agriculture Bill. A number of rural issues in Scotland were discussed with Jamie Stone, MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross.

The Countryside Alliance attends the national party conferences every autumn and holds meetings with Government ministers and opposition spokespeople to directly communicate the interests and concerns of rural communities.

Countryside Alliance Political Relations Manager, James Somerville-Meikle, commented: "We had a series of very useful meetings at the Liberal Democrat conference this year. Whilst the focus of this year's party conferences will be on Brexit, we are determined to ensure that other challenges in rural areas are not forgotten about."
