Countryside Alliance statement on Grouse Shooting debate

"Yesterday afternoon (6 September) the Petitions Committee considered a petition calling for driven grouse shooting to be banned, which has been electronically signed by over 100,000 people. This is the threshold required for a petition to be considered for a debate, which almost always leads to a debate being scheduled."

"As expected the Committee has agreed in principle to hold a debate, but will not set a date, location or duration until the House of Commons has heard evidence on the issue. Although the debate will not have any effect on legislation, this is an excellent opportunity to put the many benefits of moorland management on the parliamentary record. The Countryside Alliance is working closely with MPs and co-ordinating the Westminster campaigning with other shooting organisations to ensure that the Government and Members of Parliament of all parties are fully briefed on the enormous and proven contribution which grouse shooting makes to the economy and management of our uplands."
