Racegoers at the Countryside Alliance Point-to-Point held at Badbury Rings on Sunday 23 February were treated to six thrilling races. With competitive racing and decent-sized fields across the card, there was a lot to enjoy about the day despite the slightly inclement weather.
The Alliance was thrilled to welcome many of its members, supporters, sponsors, and patrons back to the Dorset course which had been wonderfully prepared by clerk of the course, Martyn Tory, and his team.
The first race – the Countryside Alliance Conditions Race - was won by Southfield Lily, ridden and trained by Lily Bradstock. The favourites took home the honours in both the men’s open (Dr Rhythm) and the ladies’ open (Walkin Out), while the judge had to make the call in the conditions race and the restricted race which both enjoyed close finishes. The conditions race went to Punches Cross who just beat the favourite, Llandinabo Lad, by a short head. Talimar Pearl came home a neck in front of Hurricane Deal in the restricted race. The winner of the maiden race, which closed the meeting and took place in the worst conditions of the day, was won by A Force To Reckin which was owned, trained and ridden by Jack Veysey.
Tim Bonner, Chief Executive of the Countryside Alliance, expressed his appreciation for all those who helped make the event a success:
“Once again, we are incredibly grateful to everyone who worked so hard to ensure this meeting could take place, especially the Portman Hunt team. As with so many events run by hunts, point-to-points require countless volunteers to ensure everything runs smoothly and, as ever, all their hard work is greatly appreciated.
Our sincere thanks go to all who supported the event in any way - sponsors, patrons, trade stand holders, volunteers, owners and everyone who joined us on the day to enjoy the racing. We can’t wait to welcome you back to Badbury Rings again next year.”
Sponsors and patrons were treated to a warming “stirrup cup” upon arrival, a delicious buffet lunch, and endless refreshments throughout the day. Additionally, guests received a complimentary race card and had access to the hospitality marquee positioned next to the paddock.
