about this blogRead moreAn innovative and fun fly fishing competition will take place on 13 June at Eyebrook – the beautiful reservoir
at Caldecott, Rutland – to raise funds for Fishing 4 Schools (F4S).
The idea of the AllwaterTM F4S Challenge is to encourage a sense of fun and a strong sporting ethos by holding a classic, day-long competition.
Teams will comprise two anglers. The day will be split into two sections: a morning session, where one member fishes from the bank and the other from the boat, then a mandatory lunch break taken when the team members swop over.
And just to make it more interesting the bank angler may use nymphs and dry flies but the boat fisher, purely dry flies. Extra points will be awarded if fish are caught using an AllwaterTM fly, profits from which go to F4S and which will be for sale at the event.
Charles Jardine, F4S director and legendary fly fisherman, said: "I'd like the Challenge to be a return to gentle competition where the day is more important than the outcome, whilst providing a level playing field for all competitors.
"Of course, raising funds for F4S is also terribly important, so we can take our lovely sport into the world of young people in all manner of schools and situations. I am indebted to Andy Miller and the team at Eyebrook. The time of year we have selected should see this amazing water at its best and offer fishers the very best opportunity for some spectacular sport."
Andy Miller, estate manager at Eyebrook Trout Fishery, added: "Eyebrook Trout Fishery is proud to be associated with the Allwater F4S Challenge and we hope that all who participate in this competition do so in the spirit that it is intended. The Eyebrook reservoir and its famed 'top of the water' action should indeed lend a stunning backdrop to the all new AllwaterTM F4S Challenge."
Entry fee will be inclusive of a soup and sandwich lunch and fishing costs
The timings of the day will be:
Start: 09.00
Session one finishes at 12.30
Session two commences at 14.00
Rods down at 18.30
Weigh in prizes 19.00 – 19.30
