Fly fishers invited to charity match for Fishing for Schools at Ladybower Reservoir

Keen fishers are invited to take part in a charity match at Ladybower Fisheries, in the Hope Valley Derbyshire, on 23 September in aid of the newly formed South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire Fishing for Schools group.

The Fishing for Schools group, which was launched at Chatsworth Country Fair (1-3 September), will bring angling into local schools, using the reservoir for trout fishing and other local fisheries for coarse tuition.

Fly fishing instructor Steve Newsome, who is part of the new group, said: "The Fishing for Schools group will offer free outdoor education to schools across the region but we need funds to kit the kids out, that's why we hope as many people as possible will pay a small fee and take part in the match.

"The fishing match will run from 10am-4pm, weather permitting, and is open to bank and float tube fishermen and women. There will be prizes for the most caught, best fish caught and much more. Then we shall all retire to the Ladybower Inn for sandwiches and chips and a raffle with some great prizes."

Raffle prizes so far confirmed include a print of a watercolour of a grayling by renowned angling artist Charles Jardine, a print by local photographer and fly tyer Don Stazicker and boxes of flies.

To take part in the match, contact Steve Newsome on 07752 146255 and for more information about Fishing for Schools, go to http://www.countryside-alliance.org/the-foundation/fishingforschools/
