Hunt supporter leaves terra firma to reach fundraising target for Parkinson's

On Saturday, 1st October, at Hinton in the Hedges, near Brackley, Anthony Houghton Brown is jumping out of a plane in a tandem skydive to raise money for Parkinson's UK. This is an impressive and generous act for a worthy cause, however, what makes it more remarkable is that 74-year-old Anthony and has been suffering from the debilitating disease for 16 years.

Whilst this diagnosis forced his early retirement from his 30-year teaching career, Anthony's dedication to fundraising has only grown since 2006, despite the physical disabilities that come with Parkinson's. A staunch supporter of the Bicester with Whaddon Chase, Anthony was a well-known and regular gate-shutter and steward, as well as assisting wherever and whenever needed.

Having dedicated his life to teaching at Akeley Wood School in Buckinghamshire, alongside his passion for hunting and following hounds, Anthony has also raised large sums for local and international causes. He has raised significant funds for his local church repairs and survivors of the 2001 earthquake in India - Anthony does not shy away from a challenge.

Anthony acknowledges this skydive is likely to be his final endeavour and is doing everything he can to be physically ready for the challenge. His fundraising achievements for Parkinson's UK are extraordinary, having raised a staggering £24,000 to date through a previous skydive and a gruelling320ft abseil down the spinnaker tower in 2018. Anthony's great wish is to reach his original target total of £30,000 to support the research and treatment of Parkinson's disease.

Speaking of this challenge, the Countryside Alliance's Campaign for Hunting Assistant, Eleasha Sallis said: "It is truly inspiring to see the energy and drive Anthony still has for raising money to help improve the lives of others. Incredibly supported by his wife, Lois, and many others, we all applaud and wish Anthony the very best of luck."

Anthony's fundraising group 'Team Terra Firma' can be supported through a JustGiving page, here.
