Background

Countryside Alliance a national political campaigning not for profit membership organisation known for its work on rural issues notably wildlife management but it is anything but a single issue organisation as it embraces a broad agenda of campaigns across a range of activities in relation to the rural economy and the countryside. With around 100,000 members the Countryside Alliance promotes and protects rural life in Parliament in the media and on the ground.

The Alliance is recruiting a digital marketing officer to promote its work across its digital platforms. Working with the Head of Marketing, the Head of Communications, the campaigns and fundraising team, the successful candidate will play a major role in the delivery of the Countryside Alliance's communications and messages. Based in our new offices in Vauxhall, this is a superb opportunity for someone help develop our digital marketing effort and to create greater value from its current and prospective supporter base.

The role

The successful candidate will be responsible for the management and day-to-day delivery of digital marketing and communications for the Countryside Alliance working closely with its Political, Media and Campaigns team. The role involves all aspects of digital marketing and communications activity including campaigns, social media, email campaigns and online content.

The successful candidate will need great ideas about how digital communications could be used to help the Alliance achieve its objectives, but also take a rigorous and meticulous approach to campaign management and project delivery.

This role will require expertise in all areas of digital marketing communications to multiple audiences including all aspects of website, direct email campaigns, social media and SEO.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Create and implement advertising campaigns and posts on Facebook and Twitter, ensuring appropriate messaging for the audience
  • Monitor and evaluate digital marketing campaigns' success using performance reporting and analytics and making recommendations for amendments and improvements
  • Lead the development and execution of digital marketing campaigns such as mobile and email marketing, SEO, Google AdWords and to report on campaign effectiveness
  • Drive the development and implementation of our digital marketing strategy under the Head of Communications
  • Draft and implement a social media strategy working with our campaigns and fundraising teams, using Facebook and Twitter but also exploring new channels
  • Work alongside our database manager to ensure that all activity is compatible with our ongoing membership database development.
  • Develop and manage the email marketing schedule.
  • Create and support new assets to support digital marketing activity, including videos, interactive tools, email templates.
  • Develop and create weekly social media schedule working with colleagues to ensure seasonal and time-sensitive projects are promoted and enhanced.
  • Update and management communication channels including the website, social media and online portals to ensure they are updated with relevant content.
  • Monitor and engage with our social media platforms to support the work of the Alliance, looking to engage proactively with supporters and potential supporters. Resolve any issues arising.
  • Manage existing and new micro sites related to the Alliance's work, campaigns and fundraising efforts.
  • Co-ordinate online promotion of events.
  • Keep abreast of developments and changes in social media and digital communications and make recommendations.
  • Provide cover and support in marketing and communications for colleagues.
  • Contribute to delivery of marketing and recruitment materials including working with designers to ensure deadlines are met, brand guidelines are adhered to and work is of sufficient quality.


Skills and experience

  • At least two years' relevant experience and an in-depth knowledge of digital marketing.
  • Experience of using appropriate technology, methods, equipment. Understanding of a range of digital marketing tools including Dotmailer, Google Analytics, CMS systems, Go to Webinar, Hootsuite, Survey Gizmo, MailChimp and Wordpress. Understanding of the membership database CARE NG or a similar CRM system is also desirable
  • An understanding of and engagement with rural issues
  • A high level of organisational ability
  • Excellent written and communications skills
