National Rural Crime Action Week is back!

Written by Sarah Lee | 4 September 2023

National Rural Crime Action Week, which will take place between 18th - 23rd September 2023, has one key aim; to make the countryside a hostile environment for criminals. This week will show new partnerships being forged between police forces, rural crime campaigners, rural crime watch volunteers, private technology companies and rural communities to make our countryside a safer place.

As part of the week, the National Rural Crime Network (NRCN) will also be calling on all Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) to set up a Rural/Heritage Crime Team in their area. We know that there are many forces that already have Rural Crime Teams leading the way in the fight against rural crime, but not every rural force has one. We want to see Rural Crime Teams set up across the UK which, coupled with the creation of the new National Rural Crime Unit, would be a big step forward in joining up police forces around the country.

The National Rural Crime Network, of which the Countryside Alliance is a founding member, will also be launching a new rural crime video. Crimestoppers will launch its new Rural Crime Campaign, and the Countryside Alliance will be calling on everyone to respond to our annual rural crime survey.

To follow all the action of National Rural Crime Action Week follow @RuralCrimeNtwk and use the hashtag #RuralCrime, and any of the hashtags of the issues you are interested in on social media e.g. #HeritageCrime #FlyTipping #FoodandFarmSecurity #WildlifeCrime

National Rural Crime Action Week is jointly run by the National Rural Crime Network and the National Rural Crime Unit and is an opportunity for those fighting crime, community groups and the police, to showcase the work they have been doing in the community.

Together we can tackle rural crime.
