The Nature and Us consultation is about to complete it's first phase and I urge you to take part if you haven't already done so. Natural Resources Wales (NRW) prefer to call the exercise a "conversation" and it is asking the general public in Wales about their views on the future of the natural environment and the food we eat.
The aim of NRW's work is to develop a shared vision for the year 2050 and consider the changes needed to be made leading up to 2030 and 2050, as individuals and as a country. Nature and Us wants to encourage people to think about the environment they would like to see in the future – and leave behind for future generations. Natural Resources Wales want to know how people feel about nature and how they would like society's relationship with nature to change. They also want to help people think about the changes we all can adopt ourselves to protect nature and the environment. The intention is to collate all the views presented by the public which NRW will then amplify and "build a shared vison for Wales."
The consultation has been running during the farming sectors busiest time of year and my concern is that those growing our food will be the sector that is most discussed yet will be the least engaged. This could result in an unbalanced and ideological view of how we grow our food in Wales, from Welsh lamb to Pembrokeshire potatoes. it is very important that you engage in the conversation which is facilitated by the principal advisor to the Welsh Government about issues relating to the environment and its natural resources in Wales, NRW.
There are two webinars hosted by NRW on the 27th and 28th April and you can register for one of those and access the survey from the NRW website here.
The survey closes on the 28th April.
