In today's Prime Minister's Questions Labour's Angela Smith asked if the Prime Minister would quash the rumour that there could be an amendment to the Hunting Act. Mr Cameron responded by saying proposals have been made on a cross-party basis for an amendment to the Hunting Act. That is being considered. But, he explained, he regrets to say there will not be government agreement to go forward.
It is surprising that the Government cannot agree on a proposal which research shows would improve the welfare of foxes whilst protecting lambs and other livestock. It will have to explain why it cannot. Livestock farmers, especially those in upland areas, will be very concerned if political considerations have taken precedence over evidence and principle.
