In 2016 there was a debate on grouse shooting in Westminster Hall after a petition organised by anti-shooting activists. The Alliance and the Moorland Association gave evidence to the Petitions and Efra Committee prior to the debate and we provided a brief for MPs including Rishi Sunak, who delivered this powerful speech.
The date for yet another debate on driven grouse shooting is expected to be announced shortly. There is no new evidence to consider, other than increased research about the positive ecological impacts of heather burning, and no reason for this debate to take up valuable parliamentary time. It is the result of the same baseless bias of Mark Avery, Chris Packham and their accomplices.
In coordination with our colleagues in other shooting and conservation organisations have updated our brief and will circulate it to all relevant parliamentarians, to ensure they are familiar with all the evidence of the environmental, economic and social benefits of grouse shooting. This vital work helps to secure the future of grouse shooting and moorland management.
