RSPCA boss quits after a year in post

On Tuesday 13th June, the Daily Telegraph's front page proclaimed "RSPCA boss quits crisis-hit animal charity after a year in the job", reporting "The RSPCA has been thrown into turmoil after its chief executive left his post suddenly after just over a year in the role. Jeremy Cooper's departure comes after a number of difficult years for the controversial animal charity, with falling membership numbers and criticism over its approach to prosecuting pet owners. Before Mr Cooper took on the role the charity had been without a permanent chief executive for more than two years following a turbulent period during which it came under fire for becoming increasingly political." Countryside Alliance Chief Executive Tim Bonner took to Twitter to point out that the organisation's "dysfunctional governance", coupled with the Charity Commission's toothless approach to the problems, put animal welfare at risk from continued turmoil within the Society.
