As you will be aware, the Scottish Government's Hunting with Dogs Bill is currently being considered by MSPs. The Bill contains an unjustified restriction of two dogs for fox and mammal control, but it also contains a licensing scheme which would allow the continued use of packs.
The Scottish Countryside Alliance (SCA), under its Director Jake Swindells, is working with MSPs and colleagues from other rural organisations to ensure that this licensing scheme is passed and that it is practical and workable for everyone.
We need your support to ensure that we can continue to campaign in Scotland to allow the continued use of packs under the new law and, if the Scottish Government chooses to ignore all principle and evidence, it will fund a potential legal challenge. Please donate to our Scottish Appeal and give what you can to defend gun packs, hunts, and the rural way of life.
Labour and the Green Party are committed to trying to ban the use of packs entirely and it is critical that the SCA, with its partner organisations, continues to explain the impact that a ban would have both on the livelihoods of livestock farmers and the future of vulnerable species such as capercaillie and curlew.
The SCA has built a strong case that a complete ban on the use of packs of dogs would be in breach of Human Rights legislation and has been very clear with the Scottish government that we will challenge a complete ban in the courts.
It is important that the Scottish government understands that any deviation from evidence and logic will be challenged, not just in parliament but potentially in the courts as well.
The next few months will decide whether that long campaign has successfully protected the ability to use packs of dogs in the Scottish countryside for the foreseeable future and the SCA needs your support to ensure that no stone is left unturned.
Your donation today will ensure that we can continue to campaign to allow the continued use of packs under the new law and, if the Scottish government chooses to ignore all principle and evidence, it will fund a potential challenge in the courts.
Please donate to our appeal today.
