Two brave ladies, who met on the Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland Welsh retreat in May 2018, have raised more than £1,600 for the charity with a sponsored abseil from the keep of Pembroke Castle and a raffle.
Despite a false start when high winds on their original abseil day meant they had to change the date to 21 October, Hannah and Sam managed to double their original target and their donation will pay for more ladies to attend the retreat to Garnffrwd fishery in 2019.
In the end Hannah completed the abseil but Sam's nerves got the better of her. However she hopes to try again in June 2019.
Hannah said: "There were a ridiculous number of spiral stairs to climb just to get to the top of the keep, so I was almost glad to abseil down instead.
"I came up with the idea in a fit of post retreat madness. I'd had such a wonderful weekend, it was my way of saying thank you and to make sure that other women got the opportunity in the future."
CfR UK&I retreat coordinator Sue Shaw added: "We are so grateful to these intrepid ladies. The money raised so far will ensure that three ladies can enjoy the magic of CfR at our Welsh retreat in 2019 and hopefully we can top up this figure so that more brave ladies can attend."
