Thamesview School victorious in the Fishing for Schools Kent Match Shield competition

An excellent day was had at Grove Farm, Hadlow College on Tuesday 26 September for the Kent Inter-schools Match Shield, which is run by Fishing for Schools Kent.

Five school teams took part, with four students on each team. Two students from each team fished at one time, swapping over at convenient intervals. The eventual winners were Thamesview School - pictured with the shield.

The idea of the match is to give the students, who are all learning to fish through Fishing for Schools, experience of how a match competition works - an essential part of their fishing development

The competition was a whip only, silver fish match, with carp not included. Some fine carp were caught but they were put back straight away.

Organiser Warren White said: "It was a fitting triumph for the Thamesview team as this school had so many students wanting to take part in fishing this year that we had to put on a second course to fit them all in.

"A big thank you is due to our referee Charlie Rayner, who organised the trophies and made sure the event went like clockwork and also to the other coaches – Bob, David and Steve, who assisted the school pupils.

"But the biggest thank you of all goes to the young people who attended and were a big credit to the schools they represented. They helped make this a great advert for Fishing for Schools."
