Hunt supporters living in rural and remote areas who were keen to hear their support for the national #ClapForOurCarers campaign at 8pm last night (26th March 2020) found different ways to join hundreds of thousands of others on their doorsteps.
Those living in rural and remote areas expressed concerns that their claps alone might not be heard so hundreds of hunt supporters joined in the Countryside Alliance's #HolloaForTheHeroes campaign with holloas ringing out across the countryside.
Members of hunt staff blew hunting horns while hounds could also be heard singing in kennels, all part of showing the nation's support for the NHS and care workers dealing with the pandemic crisis.
"It was important for rural residents, especially for those who may reside in particularly isolated areas, to engage with everyone else wishing to show their appreciation for the wonderful work being done to keep us safe and save lives", explained Polly Portwin, Head of Hunting at the Countryside Alliance. "Reaching out by holloaing and blowing hunting horns was an effective way to add to the overall support and helps ensure that the rural communities stay connected."
Social media newsfeeds, including Instagram and Facebook, were full of people getting into the spirit of the campaign by using these traditional hunting methods of communication.
One resident in Cheshire told the Alliance: "We could hear people holloaing from miles away and it was really uplifting."
