The Countryside Alliance will be entertaining their members and supporters this Saturday, 7th May...
about this blogRead moreabout this blogCaptain Ian Farquhar will be visiting the Countryside Alliance’s hospitality area at Badminton Horse Trials in Gloucestershire this Sunday, 7th May, to sign copies of his new book, “The Way It Was” between 11.30am - 1.30pm.
“In the world of hunting Ian Farquhar is quite simply a legend,” said our President, Baroness Mallalieu, about the former master and huntsman of the Bicester with Whaddon Chase and the Duke of Beaufort’s Hunt who has just launched his new book. “This is modern history...about a life lived through an era which is no more. This book deserves to be read by those who want to remember a world which has changed vastly over one man’s lifetime and also those who want to understand what has been lost.”
Situated on the cross-country course near Fence 5AB, the Countryside Alliance Stick Pile, the Alliance’s dedicated members’ and supporters’ area is ideally located to enjoy some light refreshments and watch the action from the seating area. Badminton spectators will also be able to see the foxhounds and beagles that will be on display around the hospitality area.
Representatives from the rural campaigning force will be on-hand on cross-country day to answer questions about the Alliance’s work and discuss any membership-related enquiries and there will also be an opportunity to view and buy a limited-edition Tania Still print of four different types of hounds.
The distinctive print, which features foxhounds, beagles, harriers and a basset hound, also includes a silhouette of the Countryside Alliance's badge in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Liberty & Livelihood March which took place on 22nd September 2002.
There have been changes to this year’s event, with action on the cross-country course taking place on the Sunday this year, with the event’s dates moved due to the Coronation taking place on Saturday 6th May.
On Monday, following the conclusion of the showjumping phase of the competition and before the prize giving, the Duke of Beaufort’s hounds will be parading in the main ring where a collection will be made on behalf of the Countryside Alliance.
The nearest car park to the Countryside Alliance members’ area is the Ice House Car Park and the exact What3Words location is https://what3words.com/rebounder.euphoric.swimmer
In addition, new for 2023 is Badminton’s launch of the Interactive Course Map app, complete with virtual course walk.
