Welcoming Roseanna Cunningham to rural brief

Written by Countryside Alliance | 17 May 2016

The Scottish Countryside Alliance welcomes the announcement that Roseanna Cunningham MSP has been appointed Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform.

Countryside Alliance Director for Scotland Jamie Stewart said: The Scottish Government's decisions on the implementation of Land Reform will be pivotal to continuance of business within the land and game management sector and to the many downstream businesses who rely on them, particularly those decisions taken by Roseanna Cunningham. Shooting events and country sports tourism attract millions of visitors every year and profile Scotland as a sporting destination of choice around the world. The failure to protect the sector will not only be detrimental to rural communities but to Scotland as a whole.

"The Cabinet Secretary has inherited the review of the Protection of Wild Mammals (Scotland) Act 2002 and we look forward to a meeting with her in her new role as Lord Bonomy's review takes oral evidence."
