What do we do?

The work of the Countryside Alliance is underpinned by our four key pillars; all of which exemplify the main reasons why we campaign for rural communities.

Challenge misinformation and bias

Sustainable rural community

Rural enterprises from farming, small businesses or rural tourism are critical to the nation’s economic health - and must be supported by infrastructure, services and policies that allow them to thrive. Moves to phase out fossil fuels in response to climate change, the ongoing transition towards a cashless and online society, and the loss of services represent particular challenges for rural communities.

Environmental stewardship

Without the custodians of the countryside, the nation cannot deliver solutions to the challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss whilst meeting the needs for food and water. Rural people including farmers, keepers and land managers are a vital part of the solution.

star

Challenge misinformation and bias

Those opposed to our way of life are happy to sacrifice truth and ignore evidence in pursuit of extreme agendas around veganism, animal rights and rewilding. Rural people deserve the truth to be told, and the Alliance challenges untruths and bias wherever it is found.

Public benefit

The countryside is a national asset, nurtured and maintained by farmers, keepers and land managers. Ensuring the nation’s food security whilst tackling climate change and preserving biodiversity, is critical to our survival. Responsibly managed, access to nature underpins our physical and mental health and is a story that needs to be told.
